UPLB-NWRB Project on Dam Operation Protocol in Angat Watershed Kicks-Off
The UPLB Interdisciplinary Studies Center for Water and National Water Resources Board of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources conducted an online kick-off meeting for the project “Review and Revision of Dam Operation Protocol in Angat Watershed Bulacan, Philippines” last 3 September 2021.
The Angat multi-purpose dam’s operation rule was last updated in 2009 through Resolution No. 003-1209. In the said resolution, National Water Regulatory Board in consultation with the members of the Technical Working Group (TWG) which includes Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System, National Irrigation Administration, National Power Corporation and Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration, is assigned to develop and approve new Angat Reservoir Operation Rules every five years or whenever necessary to incorporate the long-term changes in hydrological conditions and to improve the operation with advanced technology and state-of-the art system. Hence, this study seeks to revisit and update the Angat Protocol/Operation Rules vis-à-vis its demand and projected supply and its role in flood management.
The results of the study will be beneficial in performance for operational use of the system to support river and dam operators and managers’ decision-making. The objective of this study is to revisit and update protocol or operation rule of Angat Multipurpose Dam.
The project targets to facilitate the stakeholders’ meeting with the TWG. Model in-house training and data gathering through surveys and interviews are also planned to be accomplished this year. (JOAquino, CBGigantone and ATTejada)
