The School of Environmental Science and Management (SESAM) conducted a tree planting and growing activity at the University of the Philippines Laguna-Quezon Land Grant (UPLQLG) at Siniloan, Laguna last November 18, 2022. This activity is in-line with the SESAM 25^th anniversary celebration.

The activity chair, Dr. Eduardo C. Calzeta said an estimated 200 seedlings provided by the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office-Laguna were planted by SESAM faculty, REPS and administrative staff during the one-day activity. “We planted Molave, Banaba, Guyabano, Narra, Ipil and Calumpit”, said Dr. Calzeta. 

A day before the planting activity, For. Sofia A. Alaira, head of SESAM Continuing Education and Training Division (CETD), led the delivery of the seedlings and coordination of the tree planting with officials of the UPLQLG. 

During the tree planting, For. Reynaldo Lorido of the UPLQLG said that they are delighted that more UP units are now conducting similar activities in the land grant. “We hope we will be visited by constituents not only from UPLB, but also from other UP campuses, as the vast area under UP jurisdiction can be the site of many different researches”, he added. 

Dr. Rico C. Ancog, on the other hand, said that he hopes SESAM will return in the UPLQLG soon with more studies to pursue. Despite the inclement weather, it didn’t stop the SESAM contingent to plant the seedlings, as the tree planting activity also turned into a team-building affair for the school.
