Controlled Environment Research Facility to be Established in UPLB
The Controlled Environment Research Facility (CERF) will soon be established in a 4-hectare area in University of the Philippines Los Baños. This DOST-funded state-of-the-art facility is expected to generate information on the responses of selected valuable crops, livestock, fisheries and marine resources, important wildlife resources, and pests and diseases to climate change and other stressors through studies under the Monitoring and Detection of Ecosystems Changes for Enhancing Resilience and Adaptation in the Philippines (MODECERA) Program and other related R&D projects. The results of these studies will serve as significant inputs to promoting science-based management and policy decisions towards enhancing resilience and adaptation of agriculture, fisheries, forestry and natural resources sectors.
A groundbreaking ceremony for the facility will be held on June 23, 2016, 10 AM, near PAMANA Organic Farm, along Pili Drive, UPLB. Among the expected attendees will be DOST Secretary Hon. Mario G. Montejo, DOST Undersecretary for Research and Development Dr. Amelia P. Guevara, DOST Undersecretary for Scientific and Technological Services Dr. Rowena Cristina L. Guevara, PCAARRD Director Dr. Reynaldo V. Ebora, UPLB Chancellor Dr. Fernando C. Sanchez, Jr., and MODECERA Program Leader Dr. Rex Victor O. Cruz.
