CHED-JESAM journal writing workshop in Baguio City nets highest number of participants
The Commission on Higher Education (CHED), in collaboration with the Journal of Environmental Science and Management (JESAM) conducted the Northern Luzon leg of the Capacity Building Workshop for Journal Editors, Researchers and faculty of Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) from October 22-24, 2019 at the Paragon Hotel and Suites, Baguio City.
More than 70 participants from Regions I, II, III and Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) attended the three-day workshop which enhanced their capability in scientific writing and journal management. This is the highest number of participants compared to the Visayas leg in Dumaguete City last August and Mindanao leg in Cagayan de Oro City last September.
Dr. Maria Geraldine F. Casipit, OIC-Director of CHED-CAR told the faculty and researchers of the HEIs to take this opportunity to learn more and improve the practice of the research culture of publishing journal articles. “We must not let our data and reports to get stuck in our shelves, it is part of our duty to publish our works and let others know that we are accomplishing many things”, Dr. Casipit stressed.
Similar to the previous legs, the JESAM team led by its Managing Editor, Dr. Rico C. Ancog. The 2019 Outstanding Young Scientist and UP Scientist III lectured on the various stages on how to write a scientific article. Also presented various topics in journal management were Dr. Thaddeus P. Lawas, University Extension Specialist II and Production Editor; Dr. Loucel E. Cui, University Researcher II and Ms. Cherry C. Padilla, University Research Associate II, both JESAM Editorial Staff.
Participants used their researches, project and terminal reports from their respective universities and colleges to practice scientific journal writing during the workshop proper. They were able to transform the reports in publishable format. Selected faculty members and researchers also presented their outputs in the third day of the workshop.
The final leg of the capability training this year will be held in Legazpi City, Albay on November 19 to 21, 2019. This leg will cater to the participants from HEIs from CALABARZON, MIMAROPA and Bicol Region.
